Terms of Service

Effective: May 2026

The service

Mechanic Chat (mechanic.chat) is a tool that translates technical car repair diagnoses into plain-English explanations. It is operated by Paul Scott, Scottish Borders, UK.

Free use and subscriptions

  • All users receive 5 free explanations before a subscription is required.
  • Garage and business subscriptions are £9/month.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically each month. You can cancel at any time through Stripe — cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • We do not offer refunds for partial months, but if something has gone wrong please get in touch and we will do what we can.

AI-generated content

Explanations are generated by AI and are intended to help communicate repair information in plain English. They are not a substitute for professional automotive advice. Always consult a qualified mechanic before making decisions about vehicle repairs. We are not liable for any decisions made based on content generated by this tool.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the tool for anything other than its intended purpose of communicating car repair information.
  • Attempt to abuse, reverse-engineer, or overload the service.
  • Resell or repackage the service without permission.

Limitation of liability

Mechanic Chat is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months prior to any claim.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
